CONCEPT VINYL PACKAGING DESIGN
GRAPHIC DESIGN - PACKAGING
Concept covers/packaging design for recent albums.
For Kaytranada I tried to capture his futuristic sound while keeping the design simple. I knew I wanted to incorporate the hourglass figure somehow, experimenting with putting it on the front and back cover, but I ended up using it for the tracklist and kept the front cover as minimal and timeless as possible. For the inside gatefold, I used a combination of blur effects, threshold effects, gradient maps, and curves. My process resulted in this composition that looks like he is being sucked through a portal, keeping the futuristic theme and contrasting the minimal cover. For Camila Cabello, I went with the approach of continuing the storyline she introduced with her original album cover. Her lolipop has fell to the ground and started melting on the piping hot Miami concrete, with the residue speling out her CXOXO logo on the back. I used the logo as a guide for the tracklist to keep the elements more integrated and keep the eye in the center of the design. For Lana, I used one of the existing (theoretical) covers that SZA herself posted and used it as a visual guide to make the back cover and inside gatefold. For the back cover, I used Adobe Firefly AI to imagine her view outside her tent, and framed it to make the zipper line flow when folded flat. For the inside gatefold, I used a custom rope brush to draw the “LANA” logo, keeping in theme with the yellow rope in front, and placed it over this ethereal forest image. I then colorgraded the pictures to match up the greens of the forest and add a final layer of cohesiveness.
